How to strengthen nails at home: 4 effective ways
Do you want strong and healthy nails? There are plenty of nail strengthening products available in pharmacies, but don't forget that much of what you need is already in your kitchen or on the shelves of your local health food shop. We're going to share with you some simple and effective nail strengtheners that you can easily make at home. Bonus: they take no more than five minutes to make!

Benefits of nail strengtheners

Nail damage can happen for many reasons. For example, acrylic and gel nail extensions often cause damage to your nails. Even common household chores such as washing dishes can dry out cuticles. Picking, nibbling and peeling nails are also detrimental. Toenails should not be forgotten: running, hockey, tennis or wearing shoes that are too tight can damage them. But there is no need to despair!

With a little care, you can easily keep your nails strong and healthy. You will quickly see results. After just two weeks of using a nail strengthening product, you can see improvement, and sometimes even much sooner.

Nail strengthening products can restore your nails to optimal health by replenishing lost nutrients and restoring the keratin needed to keep them growing and strong.

How to use nail strengthening products

If you're used to using over-the-counter nail strengtheners, it's important to remember that they are applied first under any nail polish. Some people prefer to forgo the nail polish and opt for a nail strengthener only.

In the recipes below, use the nail strengtheners as directed. They should be applied to clean, pre-prepared nails on a regular basis. We recommend combining nail strengtheners with cuticle oil, which will additionally support the health of your nails.

1. Recipe for strengthening nails at home

Ingredients:

- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of crushed garlic (optional)

Instructions for use:

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and soak your nails in the resulting mixture for 10 minutes. Thanks to the moisturising and strengthening properties of olive oil and the disinfecting power of lemon, your nails will be deeply nourished. To enhance the effect, you can add a teaspoon of crushed garlic to the recipe to make a paste. Garlic contains selenium, which promotes the growth and strengthening of nails, as well as vitamin E, which further nourishes them. Repeat the treatment two to three times a week for best results.

TIP: A quick and easy remedy to strengthen your nails is castor oil. You can rub it into your nail bed daily, even while travelling.

2. Intensive nail strengthening mask

Ingredients:

- 2 tablespoons of shea butter
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 2 drops of rose essential oil

Instructions for use:

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Apply the resulting mask on your hands and nails, massaging for a few seconds. After that, put on cotton gloves and leave on for 20 minutes. It is recommended to repeat this treatment once a week.

TIP: The key to strong nails is a healthy cuticle. The cuticle plays an important role in protecting new nail growth. When the cuticle is properly nourished, it creates a favourable environment for healthy nail growth, promoting strong and healthy nails.

3. Cuticle oil recipe

Ingredients:

- 1/2 jojoba oil
- 1-2 drops of tea tree oil

Instructions for use:

In the evening before going to bed, apply one drop of a mixture of jojoba oil and tea tree oil to each nail and massage into the cuticles.

- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon of honey
