What is the difference between builder gel and polygel?
You are probably already familiar with materials such as Bilder Gel and Polygel. However, for a deeper understanding of their differences, we recommend reading our article.

Consistency and texture

BILDER GEL: This thick, viscous gel, usually packaged in jars, has a consistency similar to honey or honey butter. Its thick and uniform texture makes it ideal for creating voluminous shapes and strengthening nails, providing a secure hold and durability.

POLYGEL: Polygel combines the best qualities of acrylic and gel. It has a thick, pliable texture similar to gel, but has the self levelling properties of acrylic. Polygel is usually sold in tubes or jars, making it convenient and easy to use. These features make it ideal for beginners, providing ease of use and excellent results.

Function

BILDER GEL: Used to strengthen natural nails, giving them the necessary strength and desired shape. It is ideal for strengthening natural nails as well as for nail extensions on moulds, providing a long-lasting and secure coating as well as excellent durability.

POLYGEL: Polygel is commonly used for nail extensions on moulds or for shaping nails on moulds. It is ideal for strengthening the nail plate and also allows you to create a variety of designs.

Polymerisation

BILDER GEL: Most builder gels require polymerisation in an ultraviolet (UV) lamp to fully cure and achieve the required strength.

POLYGEL: Polygel is usually polymerised under an LED lamp, however some gels can also be polymerised under a UV lamp.

Difficulties in application

BILDER GEL: Building gel requires experience and confidence to work with, as its dense texture is more difficult to mould and requires a high degree of precision and accuracy in the technique.

POLYGEL: Polygel is considered more comfortable to use, especially for beginners. Its flexibility and self-levelling ability allows for the easy creation of neat shapes and precise designs, simplifying the process and making it accessible even for beginners.

Removal

BILDER GEL: Building gel usually requires careful removal, which can be done with a file or special solvents.

POLYGEL: Polygel can also be removed with a file or special solvents.

The choice between builder gel and polygel depends on your experience, preferences and needs. Some nail technicians favour builder gel due to its strength and durability, making it a great choice for long-lasting and permanent nails. While polygel is appealing for its ease of application and convenience, ideal for beginners or those who appreciate quick and quality results. Both materials have their own features and benefits, and the best way to understand which one is right for you is to try both and see the results in practice.
